Thanks for posting this, Barbara. I didn't know she was raised a JW, nor whether she ever considered herself one. I do know she later reversed her position on abortion.

Thanks for posting this! I put a reminder on my iPhone Calendar to remind me. I'm gonna set up my DVR to record it as soon as the date is in range.
The more people that see this, the better. It's about time ALL religions were put on notice that pedophiles will no longer be able to find behind their facade. Apparently, the most effective ways of doing this are public exposure and monetary penalties. Nothing gets action quicker than hitting them in their wallets.

I am now 73 and the road has been filled with wonders
by Terry ini appreciate all my friends who stop to read what i write and post.
you help me more than you know simply by being there as a sense of 'family of friends' for me to talk to and 'share' thoughts with.i guess if i didn't have stories left to tell or people to listen, i could pack it in and join elon musk in a colony on mars.january 15, 2020. .
which world is this?_________________when the doctor pulled my screaming body out of mom all those 7 decades ago, i landed in a post-wwii world.it was--compared to today's world--an alien planet.the world i live in today has nothing in common with the world in which i grew up.there were no cell phones back then--there were black telephones with a dial-tone and an operator who placed your call.everywhere you found telephone booths!

Happy Birthday, Terry! I'm only about 5 years behind you, and remember many of the same things you wax so eloquently about.
I always enjoy your posts, although I have to admit some of them above this Georgia boy's learnin' and a bit hard for me to follow. Oh well, the crow stories are always interesting...
Keep up the good work! Looking forward to your next collection of musings...

Unfortunately, it appears that the latest ruling is correct legally even though it's repugnant morally.
I personally would place even more blame on the mother who left the victim in the pedophile's care even though she knew of his propensities and was a previous victim of him herself. Just as guilty is the pedo's wife, because she turned a blind eye.
Still, you would think that any person with a conscience who knew this jerk's history would have placed a discreet call to the cops when the kid started showing up at the meetings with him. Pedos don't get better and they don't stop. They just learn to hide it better.

My Grandmothers Funeral
by Enrique Tomlinson 1 inmy beloved grandmother has passed away and her funeral is next week at a kingdom hall.
she was a loyal jw, and unfortunately i am not understanding of the funeral procedures.
please could you kindly explain what what will happen in the funeral?

So sorry for your loss. As others said, a JW funeral is little more than a Watchtower infomercial. The dear departed gets only the briefest of mentions, and even that concentrates on their service to the Borg.
I like StephaneLaliberte's suggestion of simply walking up to the podium and announcing that you have a poem to read. Go for it!

Oh How Far I've Come
by pale.emperor inso this weekend my girlfriend and i will move into our own place together.
it turns out that “a cord of three strands is stronger” is bullshit and two people in a relationship are perfectly capable of being happy without outside influence.
what a journey i’ve had since leaving 3 and a half years ago!

Rec'd a letter from my Dad - need some advice...
by Fadeaway3pointer infader here - last meeting was in autumn 2005. lurker on this site and others.
not one to get all controversial.. typical situation, pretty much a born in and left the church at age 38 and never looked back.. i'm 53 now, parents getting older - late 70s but very active, dad is still an elder.. parents, in laws, brother and brother-in-law still uber active jws.. my family (wife and 2 adult children) out since 2005.. we have stayed close to our parents - we have treaded religion lightly and have had a pretty good relationship and have kept our personal lives and beliefs/opinions separated from them.
this was intentional - as we love them and do not want anything to cause shunning since they are getting older and want to be there for them and we respect their beliefs.. got this letter today.

Here's my 2¢ worth. Just something I would consider saying...
You ask us to respect your right to believe and live as you think best. We do and we will, even though we do not share those beliefs. We ask the same from you. Anything less would be hypocrisy.
You may remember that the July 2009 Awake! said, "No one should be forced to worship in a way that he finds unacceptable or be made to choose between his beliefs and his family." Did the Governing Body mean what they said, or were they institutionalizing hypocrisy?
We understand and accept that you do not agree with the way we now see certain things, but that doesn't mean we're not still family. Why can't we set aside this divisive issue, and simply love each other the way we should? We will gladly agree not to criticize the organization or your beliefs, and in return we ask that you acknowledge our right as adults to have our own beliefs. Any discussion of religion can simply be off the table. Would that work for you?
I don't really think such a reasonable approach will work. I mentioned that Awake! article to my very PIMI sister, and she practically shouted, "THAT DOESN'T APPLY TO US!!! WE HAVE THE TRUTH!!!'
On another occasion, when she and her husband made clear that they would be shunning me from then on, I told them that no matter how badly they treated me, they would always be welcome in my heart and in my home. Her response? A very accusatory, "You're just trying to be magnanimous!" Sheesh! In the voice of Steve Martin, "Well excuuussse me!"
Since then, I've made it clear that social coercion and emotional blackmail will not work on me. In fact, they have the opposite effect. Whenever we do have contact, I remind her that my heart and my home remain open to them. No response...
Anyway, I know how you feel and where you're coming from. Good luck. I hope that one day our loved ones will realize just how hypocritical their position is and what a bad "witness" they are giving when they cruelly shun family whose only crime is leaving the religion.

I would have no problem at all turning in the moochers who cheat the system. Especially if I had proof.
If any of you know of such cases and have proof but don't want to pull the trigger yourself, PM me. I'll report them myself and let the chips fall where they may. Again, this only applies if you have proof like the video of the leech loading bags of concrete or written evidence that the cheater wanted his checks made out to his daughter.
Scumbags! I hope they all get what's coming to them.
